Abstract

Class II Treatment with Mandibular Advancement in the Growing Patient

by Cozza Paola

Functional orthopedics for Class II malocclusions allows to control and modify the growth of the jaws and to reduce the need for treatment in the permanent dentition. Numerous clinical studies demonstrate the effectiveness of functional devices in the treatment of Class II malocclusion characterized by mandibular retrusion in growing patients. A wide range of functional orthopedic appliances are available in the orthodontic clinic, in all cases the common goal is to stimulate mandibular growth through its protrusive posture. A systematic review of the literature on the effectiveness of functional orthopedics in the treatment of Class II malocclusion highlights a substantial variability of results. These differences are mainly attributable to the type of device used and the timing of intervention. In the presentation these topics will be addressed by performing a differential analysis between the timing of treatment and 2 groups of patients treated with clear aligners and mandibular advancement.
